When sun falls, whisper
for the ancients will listen to stories spoken |
In the silent seas
he seeks those few quiet times under moonbeam skies |
And yes, it’s there too
across nightfalls and sunrises one splintered goodbye |
A breaking midnight
a dawn wildfire melody loud cacophony |
One thousand eyes watch
tonight and each night after his lonely chapter |

Personality
Tex is an Esk with a touch of coldness behind his hardened, bi-colored eyes. He often gives a cold shoulder to other Esk that approach him, although no one is quite sure if it's a lack of wanting new friends, or a fear of making them. He is often on guard unless he's alone with his chosen few, the only Esk allowed to see him in a more relaxed state. But even so, sometimes it feels like he's holding back...
The only contentment he finds in his new life is when he is reunited with his previous gang members, Solomon, Macintosh and Elizabeth. With those that he trusts Tex can be dry and a bit of a jokester, with a sarcastic wit that drives his companions mad. He is intensely loyal to any Esk he grows close to, even going as far as to getting in conflict that other Esk might wish to avoid. He can be a force to be reckoned with, if the need ever arises.
Glimpses of his previously fun-loving and charming demeanor seem to bubble up occasionally, though -- mostly when running over the rolling hills near his boundary. It is these times that he can be the most nostalgic, and most outwardly content.
He only remembers bits and pieces of his past life, with strong flashes of the most important parts.
But there is one thing he knows for sure: It didn't end well, and he was not a good man.

Design/Misc. Notes
-His body and silohuette are based off of a draft horse.
-He can be drawn with his paws peeking from his foot tufts, or they can be completely obscured by them.
-Due to his piebald, he has one gray eye (R) and one rusty-colored eye (L).
-His pattern is not the same on both sides. Please look at both carefully when drawing him! (Here is a larger version of both sides.)
-He has two scars over the bridge of his nose!
-He has the bioluminescence unique trait on his Texas Sage, so it glows slightly in the day and brightly at night.
-He has flecks all the way down the length of his body. They shimmer gold in the sunlight.
- His tail is constantly flowing, complete with many tangles and curls. It rolls and twists like a billowing storm.
-His smoke elemental starts from the tip of his muzzle, and can be drawn drifting up above him or swirled around his body. When he experiences a strong emotion, he seems to emit more smoke than usual.
-He smells like a summer's day, hay, and sage.
-His voice is smooth and deep, with a heavy southern/Texas accent.
-He refuses to sleep most nights, since he dreams of memories he'd rather forget.
-He doesn't often visit the Conservatory, nor does he seem to actively seek out new companions.

Smoke ElementalTex's smoke elemental is an echo of his past life, and manifests itself by pouring from the tip of his muzzle. Although he no longer has a mouth to breathe with, the smoke can sometimes appear to come out in small puffs. It can be drawn swirling around his body or rising up above him.
With strong emotions his smoke elemental kicks into overdrive, and in extreme cases can shroud him completely in a cloud of billowing black. |
Starlight ElementalTex's starlight elemental appears most often as small stars that hover just above his body, clinging to him like a second skin. But at will he can project them upward, creating a giant constellation above his head. This constellation stays the same when he chooses to use it, but the number of stars seems to fluctuate slightly...

His Boundary

Tex's boundary is nestled deep in the sprawling Great Plains. Hailing near the southern tip of the plains, his boundary borders on an arid shrubland. Fields of gold spread out as far as the eye can see. Rolling hills stretch far and wide, shaded only by the occasional drifting cloud. Still untamed by man, golden grasses, wildflowers and sparse bushes grow tall and wild, swaying in the unforgiving sun. Warm days bleed into cool nights, and from the tops of these hills there's a perfect view of the night sky. On the peak of one of the many golden hills stands a lone tree. It was once struck by lightning, leaving behind a jagged scar that empties out into a partially hollow trunk. Only one gnarled branch remained on the old live oak, with sparse leaves clinging to its twisted length. Tucked safely away in the hollow trunk are many different trinkets and items that Tex holds dear. Bottles of many different sizes hang from the oak's branches. Those close to him may bring a bottle to add to his collection, although not many know where the tradition truly started. Visitors can rarely find Tex resting beneath its lone crooked branch, smoke swirling from his dark silhouette. On his boundary's border stands an old, rickety building, that looks close to collapse. |
We are painted with the fear that if
The sea recedes it never comes back
But there are two things I know for sure
I will be free
I will be free
I will be free
And you can't cheat death.
One of Tex's oldest and closest friends, and the first Esk he ever created.
There was a time, long ago, when the two of them were nearly inseparable. But it's been many burning years since then, and their relationship has gone up in smoke along with them. You can find Tex lingering near her boundary every so often, and the tension is palpable.

There's a memory of how we used to be
That I can see through the flames
I am hypnotized as I fantasize
Forgetting lies and pain
But I can't go back
Partners in crime in life, and not much different in death. The two of them are incredibly close even in their immortal lives. Tex is still somewhat reserved due to the trauma of the last few months of his previous life, and can sometimes be more distant than he would be in their mortal lives. Even still, Macintosh is the Esk that knows Tex the best of them all -- As if they had picked up exactly where they'd left off. The memories that Tex has of Mac are some of the strongest memories he has, for better or for worse.

TBD
One of the many shadows from Tex's past. He has a big soft spot for the tiny little Esk and the woman she once was, and his old and hardened demeanor often cracks when she's near. Her re-appearance as an Esk was perhaps the most shocking to Tex, but she quickly became a welcome companion with her occasional visits to his boundary to catch up on each others' lives.

When my time comes, forget the wrong that I've done
Help me leave behind some reasons to be missed
And don't resent me
And when you're feeling empty, keep me in your memory
Leave out all the rest
While they were once extremely close in life, Poke and Tex have a very complicated -- and sometimes even strained -- relationship as Esk. Shared experiences and mututal pain make it hard for them to approach each other for longer than a few fleeting moments at a time. They aren't unfriendly to each other, but are extremely awkward and quiet when they're near one another. Despite this new oddly distant relationship, Tex is extremely protective of her and would do anything for her if she'd only ask.

If ever you see the buffalo run
Where ever you go I'll be there beside you
'Cause you are my brother, my brother under the sun
Once very close in life, Solomon is one of Tex's oldest and closest friends and creator as an Esk. Many years of companionship in both of their lives have built a friendship that can withstand the test of time. Tex is incredibly loyal to Solomon, and would go to the ends of the earth for him.

There's a light inside your soul that’s still shining in the cold
With the truth
The promise in our hearts
Don't forget
I'm with you in the dark
The two of them grow closer due to shared experiences and pain. Tex occasionally meets up with Frankie soon after becoming an Esk, looking for a friend that might understand him.
